About Viersen

Viersen is a town where the gentle landscapes of the Lower Rhine meet a long, quietly layered history, creating a place that feels both grounded and pleasantly unhurried. Its roots stretch back to medieval times, when small farming communities and fortified estates shaped the early settlement pattern. Over the centuries, Viersen grew into a modest regional center, influenced by trade routes, agriculture, and the cultural traditions of the Rhineland. The old town still reflects this heritage, with historic churches, traditional houses, and a layout that hints at its medieval origins.

The 19th and early 20th centuries brought new momentum. Textile production, small industries, and the arrival of the railway helped Viersen expand, while its surrounding villages—Dülken, Süchteln, and Boisheim—retained their own distinct identities. Each district developed its own character: Dülken with its lively market square and carnival traditions, Süchteln with its spa heritage and wooded hills, and Boisheim with its rural calm. Together, they form a city that feels more like a collection of communities woven into a single landscape.

Today, Viersen is known for its relaxed atmosphere and its strong connection to nature. Parks, forests, and the rolling fields of the Niederrhein surround the town, offering countless walking and cycling paths. Cultural life thrives in local festivals, art events, and the town’s well-known sculpture collection, which brings contemporary art into public spaces.

Viersen offers visitors a gentle blend of history, greenery, and everyday Rhineland charm. It’s a place where medieval traces meet modern life, where each district tells its own story, and where the landscape sets a calm, welcoming rhythm.

is an independant website
part of the "Visit Project" from

The idea is to encourage the promotion
of "cultural heritage"

The key of the project
is the expression
Visit

The "Visit phenomenon"
started in California
during the early years of the internet.

At that time
several tech pioneers
from the Golden State
traveled to Paris
and transmitted
their global way of thinking
to an avant-garde web-cafe
located at Cremerie de Paris
right in the center
of the fashion capital.

This resulted in the
invention of the
Phone Book of the World
adding international
promotion
to the Visit+[Place Name].com
communication style.

Today more and more cities
all around the globe
adopt the same,
easy to remember
domain format.

Cremerie de Paris turned into a global
Advertising Hotspot
hosting iconic Pop Up Stores
for famous Brands
like Apple, Coca Cola or Sony
and fascinating Travel Destinations
like the Kingdom of Morocco.

Many cities have "little beauties"
not everybody knows about
like the Stadtpark
with many beautiful exotic old trees
that were planted in 1891
under the guidance of the
garden architect Adolf Kowalek.

The trees incude an old
Lebanon Cedar Tree
that is almost as beautiful
as the legendaty "Cedre Imperial Meudon"
near Paris.

The Viersen cedar
is included in a tree trail with 62 notable trees,
many of which have educational signage
and QR codes.
